Rebuilding 14 broken variation families: reviews consolidated, conversion up 31%

Years of ad-hoc listing had spread one product across dozens of stand-alone ASINs with split reviews. Proper parent–child families brought the reviews and the traffic together.

The challenge

A T-shirt brand had 212 ASINs: sizes and colours listed separately, each with a handful of reviews, none ranking. Ads spread across all of them.

What we did

  • Mapped the catalogue into 14 parent families by style with size and colour as the variation theme.
  • Built the families with flat files in stages so no child lost its sales history, and merged duplicates through Seller Support cases.
  • Moved ads onto the 14 parents and their best-selling children.

The results

Review counts on the parents rose from an average of 9 to 74. Unit session percentage rose 31% across the range, ad spend fell 18% for the same ad sales, and the top three families reached page one for their style keywords.
